Fodor's Review:

A strong local following can make it tough to get one of the 22 seats at this tiny trattoria near Campo Santa Maria Formosa. With its decidedly unglamorous ceiling fans, the place feels as informal as a bistro (or a saloon); the food, however, is much more sophisticated. Chef Bruno Gavagnin's dishes stand out for lightness and balance: try the gnocchetti con moscardini (little gnocchi with tender baby octopus) or the linguine with coda di rospo (monkfish), or inquire about the carpaccio of the day. The well-assembled wine list is particularly strong on local whites.

Breaks the norm for Venice

Posted by Andrew from London on 2/26/06

Two visits - two great meals; several great bottles of wine. One of the most enjoyable dining experiences I have had. If you like seafood, go and enyoy this restaurant for what is: fresh ingredients, cooked well and served with a smile. If you crave attention, comfort and style - you won't find it here and nor should you.

Alle Testiere easily the best restaurant in Venice

Posted by Michelle from Florida on 2/16/06

My husband and I went to Alle Testiere on recommendation of a winemaker from Tuscany on the day before our anniversary. Luca & Bruno the two owners were fabulous. The food was amazingly fresh and delicious. The prices were very good for the quality. I ordered a bottle of Amarone Dal Forno 1997 vintage (which sells in the United States for about $500/bottle - and by the way you would never get a 1997 vintage any longer) and we only paid 180 Euros. The next night, the night of our anniversary we went to the Michelin rated restaurant in Venice and we both absolutely agreed that Alle Testiere was much better and a much better value. We ate at Alle Testiere the following night and again had an amazing, meal, wine & experience.
