Fodor's Review:

If you're after old-world Venetian elegance, this is your place. Born in 1792 as a café for the artists, intellectuals, singers, and conductors loitering around the opera house La Fenice, Antico Martini has changed management only twice, and since 1921 the Baldi family have maintained it as a bastion of traditional starched-collar dining. Intimate candlelit tables, antique oil paintings, and a patrician air complement classic Venetian fare, sometimes given an innovative twist. Salmon rolls filled with caviar and sour cream might be followed by homemade tagliatelle with prawn and arugula or angelfish with black peppercorns.

Birthday Dinner Surprise

Posted by crickway from Philadelphia area on 9/14/07

An excellent, well run accomodating restaurant near the Fenice. I booked my table thru the internet before our Venice vacation. Excellent response, food and impeccable service. They even had a surprise Buon Compleano cake for my wife. Got her good with that one (a few tears). Pricey but well worth it. Try the duck and lamb dishes. Too die for.

Next to the Opera House

Unlike Fodors comment, you don't need a jacket here. It is relatively informal. Good food and excellent wine list. We really enjoyed it and wouldn't hesitate to revisit or recommend. They stay open late too which is rare in Venice.

Very Good!

Of all the "Expensive" restaurants we went to in Venice, we found Antico Martini to be the best. The only downside was the Atmosphere was lacking a bit.
