Cantinone Storico

$$-$$$, Italian, Dorsoduro

User Rating: ***** 4.7

Fodor's Review:

On a quiet, romantic canal near the Accademia, this comfortable trattoria with alfresco tables serves well-prepared specialties such as risotto terra mare (with seafood, vegetables, and porcini mushrooms) and tagliolini alla granseola (available only with advance notice). The place draws mostly tourists, but it's hard to beat for location and reasonable prices. The house stocks a good selection of wines.

Amazing

Posted by jennyboo from Sacramento, CA on 9/16/07

We stayed at a hotel around the corner, and had had a long day of traveling when our Concierge recommended Cantinone Storico. We walked down to this quiet little place with outdoor tables. It is on the quieter side of the Grand Canal, rather than in the busy St. Marks square area. It had the feel of a family-run restaurant. The gentleman who took our order did his very best to translate the menu, as it does not come in English. He smiled and joked with us. We asked for his recommendation, and he explained that the risotto for 2 with mushrooms and scampi was the specialty. I'm sure I'll never again have risotto that is as amazing as this was! Come hungry, as this was a generous portion. The house red wine was the best we had while traveling around Europe. Cabernet Franc from Campodipietra. We came to really appreciate this place as we dined in Venice. The service at many restaurants can be very rude, as they don't seem to like tourists very much. Not so with this one though. Thanks everyone at Cantinone Storico!

Canalside cuisine, a delight

Friendly, helpful staff and good food from a varied menu. Could not be more pleasant dining by the canal on a warm evening.
