Queen Elizabeth, Greta Garbo, and Winston Churchill all made this their Venetian address. The feeling of being in an aristocratic private home pervades this legendary hotel replete with fresh flowers, fine antiques, sumptuous appointments, and old-style service. The dining terrace on the Grand Canal is at its best in the evening, when the boat traffic dies down. May through October you have access to the pool, tennis courts, and beach of the Hotel Excelsior on the Lido via a private (free) launch.

The nitty Gritti...

Lovely view from our room overlooking the canal, but the room itself had no coordination in colour schemes (beautiful pink and light blue chandelier, maroon curtains, olive green walls, gold carpet. All wrong). Bad bathroom - no seperate shower, although there is room, poor shower pressure and a shower CURTAIN - I ask you! Bad lighting too). Moan moan, but a very comfy bed, fresh fruit etc. The staff are top notch as you would expect. The location is one of the best in Venice. Drinks and dinner on the terrace is a great experience, even if our food was a bit on the ordinary side. Pricey, yes - very. But this is Venice and you won't find anything cheap here. Overall, we'd certainly stay here again but would avoid the same bedroom.
