From the moment you ascend the grand staircase rising above the fountain of this 14th-century palazzo, you sense the combination of good taste and modern comforts that characterize Hotel Pausania. Light-colored rooms are spacious, with comfortable furniture and carpets strewn with rugs. Some rooms face the small canal (which can be noisy early in the morning) in front of the hotel, while others look out over the large garden courtyard.

Rude staff and Mosquitos Galore!
Posted by Richtravel from New Jersey on 9/9/07
I am in shock. I've just read Ken Wilsons review. Wow. We are a fairly well traveled couple and planned a few days in Venice on the end of my wife's Bologna business trip. Where do I begin. Lets start with the rooms, small, cramped, poorly decorated and dirty. But the most lovely part were the walls FULL of blood from mosquitos killed by previous guests. The staff doesn't bother to clean it off because the hords of mosquitos are unstoppable. It looked like a homicide had just occurred. I only wish I could post pictures, I awoke each morning with my body covered in Mosquito bites. When we asked to change rooms, I could not believe the reaction from the front desk staff. Never have I encountered people like this. Rude is being nice. For fear of having this review pulled, I can't use the words I'd like too. Unhelpful, unapalogetic, apathetic, unaccommadating and useless. And all with a terribly condescending attitude. The front desk only helped us with restaurant reservations after much prodding from us. We were initially told to call ourselves. They were unable to give us ANY recommendations, we only relied on our Fodors book. We desperately tried to book other hotels for our remaining stay but could not find vacancy, so we were stuck. So, I urge any potential visitors as strongly as I can, NOT to stay at this hotel. If I haven't been clear, DO NOT STAY AT HOTEL PAUSINIA.
