You'll feel like a doge in Venice's largest luxury hotel, a complex of newer buildings and a 14th-century palazzo. Sumptuous Venetian decor prevails from the moment you set foot in the soaring atrium with its sweeping staircase. Long favored by world leaders and movie stars, Danieli is predictably expensive and very elegant. The rooftop terrace restaurant has a heavenly view but unexceptional food. May through October, you have access to the pool, tennis courts, and beach of the Hotel Excelsior on the Lido via a private (free) launch running on the hour.

Shabby Hotel in Need of Updating
Posted by robtaylor from Houston, Texas USA on 7/24/07
This hotel is in need of a major overhaul as the room we stayed in was quite seedy and worn out. Also, the staff is haughty and unhelpful. Be forewarned that this is in a very busy part of Venice and you will encounter swarms of tourists upon leaving the hotel. Many other, finer choices exist for logding in Venice.

DO NOT STAY AT THE DANIELI! From a letter I sent to the Hotel following our recent stay:
Immediately after checking into our previous rooms, we inquired at the reception about the availability of other rooms and after being shown two additional rooms, we accepted the rooms we stayed in. And the room we occupied was indeed the "best" available that your staff showed us. Nothing on your website prepared us for the unacceptable condition of the hotel. The chipped and damaged furniture, torn carpeting, dirty walls, and general disrepair of the room was like nothing we had ever experienced at a "Luxury Collection", let alone any other Starwood property for that matter, before. There was nothing Premium Deluxe about the room, nor would I ever describe this as Richly furnished as the Starwood website promises.
As a Starwood Preferred Gold member, we have selected Starwood properties as destination hotels and have stayed numerous times at other Luxury Collection hotels, including the Pulitzer in Amsterdam, the Goldener Hirsch in Salzburg, Imperial in Vienna, and Schloss Fuschl in Austria, as well as many in the US. And we thoroughly enjoyed our visits to the Grand in Florence and the St. Regis in Rome on this most recent vacation. These thoroughly contrasting experiences reinforce how justifiably shocked and surprised we were with the abominable quality of the Danieli.
We hope to visit Venice again soon, however, we will most definitely NOT be staying at the Danieli. And, unfortunately, this experience at the Danieli has causes me to lose a bit of faith in being able to judge hotels simply by the "Luxury Collection" hallmark and I will have to consider alternate hotels to the Luxury Collection when planning my next business trip or vacation.

my wife and i were there in september---the public araes were filthy---our room 700+euros had leak and carpeting was wet--locks to door to ouside room and bathroom were broken---public bathrooms were filthy---duty manager got locked in bathroom---my suggestion is stay away from this place--the other 4-5 star hotels ---that are away from san marco that i have stayed at are maintained much better---(realizing that hotels in venice are generally substndard compared to other hotels in europe)

My comments about this hotel! Room: dark, old, but with a nice bathroom Atmosphere: special, but interesting Service: forget about it! Not "palazzo"-like! The staff is arrogant and not customer-friendly at all! Value: it has never been so easy to screw your customer! Although I'm a Starwood Preferred Guest, this hotel was a big disappointment for my wife and myself! Great location, but unfortunately inefficient staff and dusted quality rooms.I wrote a complaint letter to the management and a copy to the "Guide Michelin" (=like Fodor's). The answer from the hotel was very typical: friendly but superficial!
