Until not so long ago, fish was fried and sold "to go" throughout Venice just as in London, except that it was paired with polenta rather than chips. A sign advertising fish to go still hangs outside the "Old Fry Shop," but nowadays you can only dine in. A second sign, announcing cichetti available to go, still holds true. At this tidy bacaro con cucina (with kitchen) you can have a traditional meal featuring such dishes as bigoli in salsa (thick spaghetti with anchovy sauce), baked fish with herbs, and non-Venetian lamb chops.

This is a place which has seen better days.
The food is good, maybe even excellent, but the aging setup and the fellow guests make for a depressing athmosphere. Rather try the Trattoria al Ponte next door, where you can sit with Venetians outdoors and eat nice food at half the price...
