Assisi doesn't have any bakeries -- the bread comes from surrounding towns -- but there are several pastry shops, featuring, of course, pane di San Francesco (an egg bread sweetened with raisins and sugar). Thanks to the Lombard influence, strudels pop up, such as rocciata di Assisi (filled with apples, nuts, raisins, and dried fruit). A tantalizing display of these tasty treats can be found in the town center at Bottega del Pasticcere.
