Fodor's Review:

Just outside the city walls at the eastern end of town is a funicular that provides a bracing ride to the top of Monte Ingino. (It's definitely not for those who suffer from vertigo.)

  • Cost: EUR 4, EUR 5 round-trip
  • Open: Sept.-June, daily 10-1 and 2:30-6; July and Aug., daily 8:30-7:30.

Fun-fun-fun! The "cars" of this funicular resemble bird cages which sweep you up from the edge of town to the highest point on Mt. Ingino. The path below the funicular is the Corsa dei Ceri used by the teams of runners in a race up the mountain every May 15th to see which team can be the first to deliver their 23-foot-long wooden "candle" to the Abbey. Wonderful views of Gubbio from the top, but the funicular itself is not for the faint of heart or those with a fear of heights.
