The Cascata delle Marmore are waterfalls engineered by the Romans in the 3rd century BC. To find them, drive east from Terni on the road to Lake Piediluco and Rieti. The waters are diverted on weekdays to provide hydroelectric power. On summer evenings, when the falls are in full spate, the cascading water is floodlit to striking effect.
