The closest major airports are Rome's Fiumicino (officially Aeroporto Leonardo da Vinci), Pisa's Galileo Galilei, and Florence's Peretola (officially Aeroporto A. Vespucci). Tiny Aeroporto Sant'Egidio, 12 km (7 mi) east of Perugia, has flights to and from Milan, Florence, and Rome.
Flights to Perugia are operated by Alitalia from Milan's Malpensa Airport, by Meridiana from Florence's Amerigo Vespucci Airport at Peretola, and by Air Vallée from Rome's Leonardo da Vinci at Fiumicino. Because only Alitalia offers a daily service, arrival through Milan is much more convenient than through either Florence or Rome. At this writing, Perugia is extending its runway so as to be able to host larger planes, and negotiations are under way for a direct low-cost flight to London.
