Port Ellen Clan
Port Ellen Clan Review
This somewhat odd name refers to a town on the Scottish island of Islay, in the Hebrides, where the proprietor and his family vacation. It calls itself a restaurant and a wine bar, and it also is a whiskey bar serving up fine single malts and blends. The interesting and short menu offers a selection of primi and secondi, as well as some tasty antipasti like the panino di magro di lesso con salsa verde e tazzina di consommé (a boiled beef sandwich with a herby green sauce served with a little cup of consommé). All secondi come with a side dish, which is somewhat of a novelty on Italian menus. Eclectic desserts such as the pera cotta nel wine con gelato (pears poached in red wine served with ice cream) provide a lovely final note. The place is small, intimate, and candle-lighted: perfect for a romantic meal.
