Manager Lorenza Capannelli and her fine staff are welcoming, hospitable, enthusiastic, and go out of their way to ensure a fine stay. Dark, straight-lined wood furniture stands next to beds with floral spreads; some have upholstered headboards. Rooms in the back look out onto the garden or the countryside in the distance. When it's warm, breakfast is served on the flower-filled garden with a view of the Siena countryside, providing a gorgeous start to the day. The well-run hotel is outside Porta Romana—a 15-minute walk south of Piazza del Campo. Pros: Friendly staff, a short walk to center of town, breakfast in the garden. Cons: On a busy intersection, outside city walls.
