La Locanda Review
At an altitude of more than 1,800 feet, this converted farmhouse is probably the loftiest luxury inn in Chianti. Its views are breathtaking, looking down on Volpaia and Radda, with Siena and the hills of southern Tuscany as a backdrop. The infinity pool, set on the hillside, takes full advantage of the magnificent panorama. Hosts Guido and Martina Bevilacqua are on hand to pamper you. Guest rooms are simple but tasteful, with high beamed ceilings, painted, as was once the tradition in these parts, in pale pastels. A minimum stay of two nights is required. To get here, take the bumpy gravel road 2 km (1 mi) northwest from Volpaia.

Martina and Guido have created an amazing ambience. The room was great, the view from the balcony even better, and the hospitality was amazing. Guido is a fantastic host, and Martina is quite the chef. We drank wonderful wines from their wine list, and Guido shared his home-made limoncello, as well as Nocino, which was outstanding. After dinner, the get-togethers in their lounge were so much fun. We plan to return ASAP. Please include La Locanda in your guides.

From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty. We arrived Midweek and surprisingly were the only ones on the property, other than our fabulous hosts, for that evening. Guido and Martina asked if we wanted to share dinner with them - HOW COULD WE REFUSE? The dinner was sublime, Martina is a fabulous chef. We sat around having fabulous conversations, listening to amazing jazz, and drinking grappa and limoncello (oh how I love limoncello).
You owe yourself the drive to this quaint town, and as Fodor's review states the "magnificent panorama", but most of all visit La Locanda for the best of Italian hospitality.
We will be going back this year!
