Fodor's Expert Review Hotel Ritz
Via Flavio Gioia 2, Forte dei Marmi, Tuscany, 55042, Italy
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
The Biagi family lovingly restored this 1920s Beaux Arts villa, and opened it to the public in 1980. It is still a hands-on family affair. Sculptor Henry Moore (1898–1986) found inspiration during stays in the mid '80s, and it's easy to see why. Though elegant, the place is not pretentious. Spacious, airy public rooms lead directly to a garden with pool. Rooms are simple but elegant, with modern-art prints on the walls, art deco–esque furniture, and large marble bathrooms. The hotel is one block from the area's beach clubs and a short walk from the center of town.
PROS
- multilingual staff
- the Stretch (a free pick-up and drop-off service for points in town), the hotel's very own Mercedes to take you or pick you up at the airport
CONS
- beach costs extra (you have to join a beach club)
- sea-view rooms can pick up some street noise
