Osteria Al Vecchio Stallo Review

This former stable bursts with character, its beautiful courtyard shaded by grape arbors. The menu includes a wide choice of traditional Friuli home cooking. As an appetizer, try the prized prosciutto from the neighboring village of San Daniele, which some regard even more highly than the famous Parma prosciutto. For the first course try cjalzòns (the region's answer to ravioli), or the excellent mignàculis con luagne (pasta with local sausage). Friuli classics such as frico con patate (hash-brown potatoes with Montasio cheese) or goulash with polenta are good second courses. On Friday there are also fish dishes. There's a great selection of wines by the glass, and the gregarious chef-owner is a gracious host.
