Fodor's Review

This 1920s luxury hotel is where the rich and famous come to relax and play on the Italian Riviera. The property oozes of charm, taste, scenery and, of course, money. There is a particular attention to color, from the coordinated floral linens in corals and gold, to the fresh flowers in the reception rooms and on the large terrace. Even grander than the hotel are its prices (more than €1,000). A half-board plan is mandatory during high season.

Possibly the best hotel in Italy!

Possibly the best overall hotel experience of our live! We just returned from a two-week trip to Italy for our 20th anniversary. We spent four nights at the Hotel Splendido. We heard someone say to his wife the views are indescribable and that pretty much sums it up. Every step outside the property leads to a view that is breath taking, stunning and spectacular, if you will pardon my clichés! The service is as good as the views, at least while

we were here. I let the hotel know our approximate arrival time by rental car. When we arrived the doorman walked up and said Mr. M., welcome to the hotel. He then led us to the bar (a wonderful place) where a tray of appetizers waited with wine whilst he and the concierge took care of checking us in and moving the luggage upstairs (I did not sign anything!). Everyone in the hotel knew our names from that moment on. The views out of our room (234) were so incredible it took an act of incredible will power to ever leave the terrace. Huge French doors opened up onto our terrace, with breakfast (btw the only decent breakfast we have ever had in Italy was at the Splendido!) on the terrace being our favorite time. The first evening at dinner, with the moon shining on the harbor and the Med. Sea, overlooking the castle on the peninsula opposite us my wife actually broke down sobbing for joy! The cuisine was sublime, the seafood dishes amongst the best we have ever had! The staff service was excellent without being pretentious or condescending- the perfect mix of formality and fun. The pool and views are fantastic&and lunch by the pool offers a different but beautiful view of the harbor. Expensive- you bet! But if you are planning a romantic getaway, honeymoon or wedding anniversary trip the Hotel Splendid just might offer you the most romantic and pleasurable hotel experience you have ever had!

service,service, service

Hefty prices but worth it. Never saw a bill till checkout. Dinner on the patio, Lobster and Linguine, Rack of Lamb, Brunello. The masterful Antonio in the bar, what a memory. Highly recommended.
