A striking 12th-century twin-tower structure, this medieval gateway stands on the spot where a road from ancient Rome entered the city. It is just steps uphill from Columbus's boyhood home, and legend has it that the explorer's father was employed here as a gatekeeper. It's also known as Porta di Sant'Andrea (note the flags, with a red cross on a white background, flying atop the towers).
