Fodor's Review

Outside the small mountain village of Pinzolo (on the SS239), stop at the church of San Vigilio to see the remarkable 16th-century fresco on the exterior south wall. Painted in 1539 by the artist Simone Baschenis, the painting describes the Dance of Death: a macabre parade of 40 sinners from all walks of life (in roughly descending order of worldly importance), each guided to his end by a ghoulish escort. The church's interior is closed to the public.
