A fisherman’s tavern later converted into a guesthouse, this hotel has long held center stage on Spiaggia Grande beach. It found fame as Positano’s first nightclub (now La Pergola restaurant), and the photos of Steinbeck, Hemingway, and Jackie Kennedy that line the hotel walls prove the glitterati once flocked here. Today, some of the airy guest rooms look over the majolica dome of Santa Maria Assunta, and many enjoy sea views. The rooms with terraces or balconies
are particularly appealing. The dining terrace features such specialties as homemade scialatielli ai frutti di mare (seafood pasta) and Gambaretti alla Clark (named after the American general who docked here during World War II and promptly requested a prawn cocktail). The hotel doesn’t have a pool, but who needs one this close to the beach?
