Once the spot where Jacqueline Kennedy famously sought refuge when hounded by paparazzi, this is still a favorite destination to channel Capri's Sunset Boulevard-y ghosts. With greater crowds packing Capri, the hotel does suffer a bit from its location—just around the corner from the Piazzetta and right in the thick of crowds, cafés, and discos. That noted, the lovely atmosphere inside the public salons is quintessential Caprese—a blue-on-white bar area, majolica-lined
stairs, and antique-y accents. It has grown ritzier over the years and facilities now include a spa open to nonresidents. Matisse, the resident gatto bianco (white cat), adds an authentic touch to this taste of Capri.
