Terme dei Papi Review

Viterbo has been a spa town for centuries, and this excellent spa continues the tradition, providing the usual health and beauty treatments an Etruscan twist: try a facial with local volcanic mud, or a steam bath in an ancient cave, where scalding hot mineral water direct from the spring splashes down a waterfall to a pool beneath your feet. The Terme dei Papi's main draw, however, is the terme (baths) themselves: a 21,000-square-foot outdoor limestone pool, into the shallow end of which Viterbo's famous hot water pours at 59°C (138°F)—and gives a jolt with its sulfurous odor. Floats and deck chairs are for rent, but bring your own bathrobe and towel unless you're staying at the hotel.

    Terme dei Papi Review

    Animals in the sink, hair in the towels.
    No air conditioning.
    Service in the restaurant and buffet are horrendous.
    Food in restaurant served cold, dessert inedible and unidentifiable.
    Waiter with an attitude fit for a jail canteen, not a four star hotel.
    No bottle opener so at 4.30 am when my travel companion felt sick because the management would not turn the air conditioning on I had to go to reception, wake the night porter to get him to open it...
    AND!
    i asked them to do something to remedy the situation and at checkout they gave me a 25 euro discount (on a 320 euro bill) but, charged me for the dinner that was cold and the water from the mini bar that I couldn't open!
    I wrote to the management and told them it was unacceptable, it is a week now and I still haven't heard anything.
    This is the anithesis of relaxation.
