Sardinia Sights

Compendio Garibaldino

Updated 04/25/2014

Fodor's Review

Pilgrims from around the world converge on the Compendio Garibaldino, a complex on Isola Caprera that contains the restored home, a museum, and the tomb of Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807–1882). The national hero and military leader who laid the groundwork for the first unification of Italy in 1861 lived a simple life as a farmer on the island that he eventually owned. Take the ferry to Isola Maddalena and then the bridge to Caprera.
