Fodor's Review

From May 1 to 4, thousands of costumed villagers parade through town during Sardinia's greatest annual festival, the Festa di Sant'Efisio, named after the martyred saint who saved the city from the plague in the 17th century. The saint's statue is carried aloft through Cagliari's flower-lined streets, part of a four-day procession from Cagliari to Nora and back again (a round trip of about 40 miles), and is accompanied by colorful costumed groups from throughout the island

in an enthusiastic celebration of traditional culture. Ask at local tourist offices about purchasing tickets for viewing the grand spectacle along the main route in Cagliari.
