In the foothills of the Supramonte mountains, you'll find this luxury hotel, where the rooms are country retreats, decked out with traditional Sardinian fabrics, wood chests, paintings, and exposed wood-beam ceilings. Stop in the rustic restaurant ($$) for an authentic Sardinian meal; specialties include maccarones de busa (thick homemade pasta twists), culurgiones (ravioli), suckling pig roasted on an open spit, and, for dessert, sebadas (pockets of fried dough stuffed with cheese and lemon peel). Much of the local red wine is made from cannonau grapes grown in the countryside that surrounds the inn. Relax around the large swimming pool and in the lounging areas, or coordinate with staff members to organize jeep and hiking expeditions. Su Gologone attracts droves, but for good reason: the hotel is 7 km (4 miles) southeast of Nuoro, and combines luxury with a rural flavor.
