The lush park of Villa Borghese is studded with world-class museums. The most celebrated is the Galleria Borghese, set in a regal palazzo built by Cardinal Scipione Borghese to house his fabulous art collection. Nearby is the Neoclassical gallery that somewhat incongruously houses collections of modern art, the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna. Moving to the south of the park, the Pincio hill is a belvedere over the city. Here you'll find the elegantly picturesque Villa Medici, whose gardens were once painted by Velásquez, Fragonard, and Ingres. Once a favored place for the 19th-century rich and famous to take their promenades, the Pincian remains a lovely vantage point over elegantly planned Piazza del Popolo.
