Opening Hours

Shopping escapades in Rome definitely require flexibility and a certain degree of pazienza. Small mom-and-pop shops may observe the traditional siesta and close down for lunch (1–1:30 pm until 4–4:30 pm), whereas larger retailers and chains will open around 10 am and keep continuous hours until 7:30–8 pm. Most shops (unless located in one of Rome's malls) are typically closed on Sunday and on Monday morning. Banks are generally open weekdays 8:30–1:30 and 2:30–3:30. Summer travelers should be aware that most small shops close for two to three weeks just before or after August's "Ferragosto" holiday.
