Fodor's Review:

Although Rome is not considered part of the circuit done by opera afficionados, its company does command an audience during its mid-November to May season at Teatro dell'Opera. Tickets go on sale at the start of the season; the box office (Piazza Beniamino Gigli 1) is open 9 to 5 Tuesday to Saturday and 9 to 1:30 Sunday. Prices range from EUR 20 to EUR 100 for performances. Special events, such as an opening night or the appearance of an internationally acclaimed guest singer, can cost much more. In the hot summer months, the company moves to the Terme di Caracalla (Via Antoniniana 14, Caracalla. www.operaroma.it), a 3rd-century bath complex at the edge of the ancient city. The preferred performance is Aida for its spectacle, which includes real elephants. Lately, the company has taken a new direction, using projections atop the ancient ruins to create cutting-edge sets.
