"TomKat" (Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes) had their celeb-studded rehearsal dinner here, a testament that this dressed-up trattoria has been a favorite among international journalists and the rich and famous for decades. Nino sticks to the classics, in food and decor, as well as in its waiters. Much of what you find on the menu here are Roman staples with a Tuscan slant. To start, try a selection from the fine antipasto spread, or go for the cured meats or warm crostini (toasts) spread with liver pâté. Move on to pappardelle al lepre (with a rich hare sauce) or the juicy grilled beef. One warning: if you're not Italian, or a regular, or a celebrity, the chance of brusque service multiplies—so insist on good service and you'll win the waiters' respect (and probably their attention).

My wife and I with another couple had dinner at Nino's several weeks ago on the recommendation of a friend in Rome. Perhaps we should have included her to obtain better service. We were promptly seated and then ignored by the staff for most of the evening. However, this appeared to be the fate of most tables around us also. The service we did received was rude. The quality of the food was inconsistent. Some dishes were quite good and others very mediocre. The experience was very poor compared to other meals and service received throughout Italy.
