Destined to be Rome's "Museum of Art for the XXI Century," MAXXI is in the the midst of an ambitious, architecturally cutting-edge remodeling by noted Iraqi-born architect Zaha Hadid. Four years into the project, an enormous concrete structure has risen but, for now, only two large exhibition rooms house temporary design and art shows. The rest of the project is, alas, bogged down in Italian bureaucracy and covered in scaffolding. To get out here, at Piazza del Popolo take Line 2 of the Metro at Flaminia two stops to Appolodoro. The MAXXI complex is within walking distance of the Parco della Musica concert hall complex.
