Fodor's Review

Hotel Forum. A longtime favorite, this converted 18th-century convent has a truly unique setting on one side of the Fori Imperiali with a cinematic view of ancient Rome across the avenue. The hotel lobby is comfortable though considerably less exciting: the decor is traditional in the extreme, with the requisite gold wall sconces, walnut paneling, red-velvet armchairs, and Asian carpets in the lobby. Upstairs, the guest rooms are similarly low-key, although pleasant;

suites offer velvety fabrics and some antiques. Bathrooms have been restyled using antique tiles. Little on the restaurant menu can compete with the view from this rooftop restaurant—if you get the view (many tables are not ringside, so to speak).

Sunset from the Terrace

A room with a view of the Roman Forums is great, as is the sunset from the rooftop terrace and restaurant.

Very Disappointing

We stayed at the Forum in Sept. 2002 and we were quite disappointed. We expected much more, given the high price (260 euros). The rugs in our room were covered in dirt and lint and the rest of the room was nothing to get excited about. We did have a good view of the Forum from our window, and the breakfast was nice. We might have been reasonably happy with the hotel had the price been considerably lower.

Old European Style Hotel

I really enjoyed the location next to the Forum. The rooms are generally much smaller than most Americans expect for this costly of a hotel. But the location and the rooftop garden are worth it. Plus our room was furnished with charming "antiques."

A Quiet spot by the Forum

Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the Forum and some of the most important sights in Rome. It's on a quiet street and it's an easy walk to most of the things that interested us.
