Atlante Star Review

The lush rooftop-terrace garden caffè with a stage-front-and-center view of St. Peter's Basilica is one reason guests book their stay here, while others include close proximity to the Vatican, top-notch service, and superb shopping all at your fingertips. In a distinguished 19th-century building, the guest rooms are attractively decorated with striped silk linens and prints for an old-world atmosphere. The friendly family management is attentive to guests' needs and they take pride in offering extra-virgin olive oil from their own trees in the country. A sister hotel, the Atlante Garden, just around the corner, has larger rooms at slightly lower rates. If requested, the Atlante Star will pick you up at Fiumicino airport for free.

    Atlante Star Review

The hotel offers a free airport pick up if you notice them at least 3 days in advance. The driver waited for more then 1 hour since our flight was delayed. The negative side is that he drove like crazy (even in Roman traffic terms) and we were (honoustly) happy to survive the ride.To our big surprise we got an upgrade to a "deluxe" room. The room was rather small, but that's normal for central Rome. The view to the courtyard was dirty, but some may call it "romantic", thus adjusting to the style of the room (a 19th century English gentleman staying in Rome). You can open the window and you will be waking up with the nice smell of a nearby bakery and the musical choice of a neighbour. The "pièce the resistance" of the hotel is the superb view on the Vatican in the restaurant and the breakfastroom. Notice that only a few tables have that view which can be a problem during high season. The restaurant is expensive and not advisable, the more you will need to make an extra reservation for the Vatican view tables. Breakfast offers a large variety of choices but the coffee is instant coffee and the tea hardly warm. The location of the hotel is good, but rather far from the subway system. I do not advice to take the Rome tour buses which are nearby. The subway is cheaper and (far) faster. The Via Borgo Piu offers a lot of cheap Italian restaurants but the closer you get to the Vatican the more likely you will be in a tourist trap (check your bills and refuse to pay the extra 12% service tax "because they are close to the Vatican". It's illegal to Italian law. Opt for the center of the street. Do not thake the hotel shuttle back to the airport ( 40 euro : about the same price as the taxis ) but I advice the Da Vinci Express train from the Terminale train station.
