Fodor's Review:

On a side street a block from the Vatican Museums, this family-operated hotel offers excellent value in a neighborhood with moderately priced shops and restaurants. A spiffy lobby and ample lounges, a tavern, terraces, and roof gardens are some of the perks, as is an exercise room equipped with step machines and a treadmill. Rooms are spacious and well-furnished; many can accommodate extra beds. Needless to say the location here is quite far away from Rome's historic center.

excellent choice for the careful spender

We stayed at the alimandi B&b, an apartment around the back of alimandi vaticano and across the street from alimandi tunisi. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was excellent and the location was nice. Easy access to metro, bus etc. They included the amendities from the sister hotels such as breakfast, shuttle service, bar, internet, etc... We would definitely return. We stayed in the double room but they also offered an apartment with kitchenette, washer/dryer. That would be great for a small group.

Most memorable hotel experience of my life!

Now it's true that Hotel Alimandi's beds are comfortable; the rooms and bathrooms immaculately kept up; the prices exceptionally reasonable; the air conditioning pleasant and reliable; and the internet service convenient. It's also true that the roof garden is a delightful oasis where you can start your day with hearty breakfasts. And it's true that the hotel's location -- just across from the Vatican -- is lovely and close to the bus and metro lines. But that's not why I'll remember this hotel so fondly. The real magic of this place is supplied by the family that runs it. I came to Italy in substantial part to meet Italians, to glimpse a bit of their vaunted warmth and hospitality, and that's exactly what I got at the Alimandi the minute I walked into the hotel. This hotel is all heart. One warning however: if you ever happen to find yourself on the roof garden during a championship World Cup Soccer match with Italy poised to win, as I did: DON'T sit in front of Francesco. The man is a menace with a blowhorn ... nearly fell off my seat three times! No, seriously, I had the time of my life watching the game on a widescreen TV with staff and Italian friends and afterwards, the hotel broke out the Spumanti for everyone. It goes without saying that I hope to return to Rome again and again and that I'll never stay anywhere else but the Alimandi. A couple of tips: Counterintuitive as it may sound, try the fish-stuffed ravioli at the charming family-run restaurant just a block away from the hotel: the Piacere Molise. Also, if you're interested in bringing back some beautiful etchings of Rome at very affordable prices, I wholeheartedly recommend Casali's at 81 Piazza della Rotonda just next to the Pantheon, just a short bus ride from the hotel. Be sure to say hi to owner Claudio Casali for me. Note: the breakfast buffets and the van shuttle from the airport are free!
