Fodor's Review

Not far from Santa Maria Maggiore, Trattoria Monti is one of the most dependable, moderately priced trattorias in the city, featuring the cuisine of Le Marche, an area to the northeast of Rome. There are surprisingly few places specializing in this humble fare. While once considered one of the best trattorie in the city, the quality of both food and service have declined in recent years, and the dishes can be hit-or-miss. Still, for those tiring of Roman-only menus, Trattoria Monti's pastas and various roasted meats are a hearty alternative. The region's rabbit dishes are much loved, and here the timballo di coniglio con patate (rabbit casserole with potatoes) is no exception.
