Fodor's Review

A favorite among international journalists and the rich and famous for decades (Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes had their celeb-studded rehearsal dinner here), Nino is Rome's best loved dressed-up trattoria. The interior is country rustic alla Tuscana, and, along with its look (and waiters!), Nino sticks to the classics when it comes to its food—basically Roman and Tuscan staples. Start with a selection from the fine antipasto spread, or go for the cured meats or warm crostini (toasts) spread with liver pâté. Move on to pappardelle al lepre (a rich hare sauce) or hearty Tuscan ribollita soup, and go for the gold with a piece of juicy grilled beef. If you're not Italian, or a regular, or a celebrity, the chance of brusque service multiplies—insist on good service and you'll win the waiters' respect.
