Map of Old Rome

This is the Rome of your dreams: terra-cotta-hued palazzi, relentlessly picturesque squares and fountains, with one brauara Baroque architectural blockbuster after another. Here you can time-travel back to the 17th century and watch the world pass by on Piazza Navona -- the "living room of Rome" -- where you'll find Bernini's most lighthearted tribute to the Baroque style, the Fountain of the Four Rivers and Borromini's showiest showpiece, the church of Sant'Agnese. To either side of the piazza are more 17th-century wonders: one block to the west is the adorable piazza and church of Santa Maria della Pace designed by Pietro da Cortona; one block to the east lies the church of San Luigi dei Francesi, which has three of Caravaggio's greatest paintings.
