Why We Like It
Located in the middle of Rome's famed Via Veneto, surrounded by sycamore trees and some of the best people watching in the city, the Hotel Alexandra is a way to experience the dolce vita without breaking the bank. Although rooms are small, it's a good deal for what you pay in the Italian capital. With comfortable furnishings for a good night's sleep, everything you need in Rome is just steps away outside the front door.

For more than a century Hotel Alexandra has been a family affair, and distinguished style and moderate prices have allowed it to hold its own against its flashier big brothers and sisters on Via Veneto. Thankfully, the hotel has seen some revamping since the days when King Vittorio Emanuele III reigned; rooms have been recently and tastefully redecorated with both elegant antiques and handsome contemporary furnishings. Elegant touches throughout the hotel like stained glass windows and iron railings make for a unique atmosphere. Rates are very reasonable considering its high-brow location. In low season, you can find rooms as low as €70.

Room
Even with its low prices, the Hotel Alexandra doesn't skimp on service. The rooms feature lush wallpaper and heavy curtains over soundproof windows. The rooms, decorated in subtle gold and beige colors, have hardwood floors or pastel carpets that complement the softly-colored walls and bed frames. Antique wood desks, wardrobes and tables feel right at home in the classical building. And each room guarantees free WiFi, Satellite TV, and a safe. Many of the lowest-priced rooms are tiny, and best for people using them only to sleep.For families, the mini-suites offer a spacious design and comfortable sofas at affordable rates.
You Should Know Some guests have complained of a poor WiFi connection, so you may need to spend time in the lobby if you're looking to get some work done.
Bathroom
Marble bathrooms are clean and spacious, many with a large bathtub for soaking. Full toiletries are provided and thick towels are replaced daily. All rooms have a wall hair dryer.

The main lobby is up a flight of stairs. A doorman can be called to help with any luggage. An expansive marble lobby with circular windows provides a beautiful view onto the street. You can relax in the gold and purple armchairs and watch the morning news. Leave your key at the front desk when you leave for the day.
You Should Know Although an elevator reaches all floors, some rooms are only accessed by a further small flight of stairs.

There's no gym onsite, but the hotel has special deals with fitness centers and spas nearby.

The sidewalk Gazebo Bistrot is an ideal spot to people watch on Via Veneto. Take a seat on the sidewalk and enjoy the view. Its wide menu also has multiple gluten-free and special diet options. The included breakfast in the indoor restaurant offers a typical Italian assortment of fresh pastries and cakes.

Getting Around
The Barberini metro stop is a 1-minute walk away, and most of Rome's top tourist attractions are not much further. Taxis and bus lines are also plentiful here.

Just a one-minute walk away is L'Hamburgheria di Eataly, a casual burger outpost of the popular food mecca. It's ideal for grabbing a quick, inexpensive bite, although the portions are small. Ginza Gold (5-minute walk) offers a great sushi lunch menu.
Bars
One of Rome's swankier options, Jackie O' (7-minute walk) is a classic piano bar with the vibe of a cigar lounge, complete with stained-glass mirror detailing and red leather walls and armchairs. Back when it opened in 1972, it was a celebrity hangout, attracting guests over the years including Liz Taylor and Liza Minelli. Today, it's a tourist hotspot. Gregory's Jazz Club (5-minute walk) is an intimate whisky bar, where tables are so close you'll likely meet new friends. They offer live music for a cover fee.
