Music and Performances
Rome’s summer season (L’Estate Romana) offers a vast program of free or low-cost events June to mid-September, including open-air concerts ranging from pop to classical. Rome’s parks, the Tiber Island, and many major piazzas become impromptu venues for street artists, cinema under the stars, food festivals, and musical and theatrical performances, many of which are free. Throughout the year, many of Rome’s historic churches host free recitals and chamber music concerts that are not widely advertised. Look out for flyers in hotels, on café counters, or stuck to lampposts. Check the website www.turismoroma.it or phone 06/0608 for information. Wanted in Rome magazine (online and in print) is a good source of information about events in English.
