Fodor's Review:
Valentino Donna remains the epitome of ultra-elegant luxury. In the 1960s, Valentino put Rome on the fashion map big-time, knocking Dior and Balenciaga off their elevated Paris perches in the process. Still the darling of the château and luxury yacht set, Val has learned to hop to a hip new beat and has won the hearts of a new generation of fashion divas, thanks to his crisp, clean dresses, suits, and separates for day, fairy-princess gowns for night. Although he tearfully "retired" two years ago, he still rules his kingdom from his palazzo on Piazza Mignanelli. At his main Via Condotti store, a plush red carpet leads upstairs to the gilded salons where off-duty celebs can make their purchases in complete privacy. Of course, prices are stratospheric, but these can be investments that will pay off over seasons of wear. Valentino's second and more informal boutique, carrying both his "R.E.D." and "Roma" lines, is on Via del Babuino. The men's boutique is around the corner at Via Bocca di Leone 15.
