$$$, Vatican
Fodor's Review:
An aristocratic town house in the residential Prati district, the Giulio Cesare is a 10-minute walk across the Tiber from Piazza del Popolo -- while close to the Vatican, it's rather far from the centro istorico and this probably means taxis to get back here late at night. It's beautifully run, with a friendly staff and a quietly luxurious air. The rooms are elegantly furnished, with chandeliers, thick rugs, floor-length drapes, and rich damasks in soft colors. Public rooms have Oriental carpets, old prints and paintings, marble fireplaces, and a grand piano. The buffet breakfast is a veritable banquet.
