$$-$$$, Italian, Pantheon
Fodor's Review:
This is a funky spot near the Pantheon and various government offices, where the Italian notion of the bella figura (looking good, particularly to others) is as much at work as mangiando bene (eating well). The four pillars around which the structure is built are ancient Roman, but when you walk through the 16th-century door, it's clear that Boccondivino (which means "divine mouthful") is all about the here-and-now, with the animal-print chairs and glass-fronted dining room, dramatic lighting and marble floors, and eclectic modern artwork on the walls. The outdoor seating in the intimate piazzetta out front is a great summer spot. The EUR 18 prix-fixe lunch menu is a terrific deal for a lunch meeting, but wait, this is also the perfect place for a dinner date. Start, perhaps, with a citrus-marinated salmon served with peppery Roman arugula, then move on to (or split) the delicious angler fish ravioli made elegant by a salsa di fiori di zucca (pumpkin flower sauce). Then go for a secondo -- the seared duck breast is all gamey goodness, while the fillet of turbot stuffed with foie gras is an innovative coupling.
