$, Trastevere
Fodor's Review:
Not far from some of the sweetest nooks and crannies of medieval Trastevere, this former monastery (once the Palazzo dei Ponziani) was built to honor the 15th-century St. Francesca Romana. A large complex, the hotel is centered around an impressive ochre-colored courtyard, set with potted trees and tables. Guest rooms are standard-issue and these cool white walls, tile floors, simple beds, and simpler desks won't win any design-awards. But for the money, this is a fabulous location and spectacular buy, made even attractive if you want to opt for the half- or full-board options available.
