Here you can find staple Roman trattoria fare as well as dishes with a Neapolitan slant. This means that spaghetti alla carbonara (with chopped bacon, eggs, and cheese) shares the menu with the likes of penne alla Sorrentina (with tomato, basil, and fresh mozarella), as well as a delicious pressed octopus carpaccio (cooked, no worries!) on a bed of arugula with olive oil and a squeeze of lemon. For starters, the bruschette here are exemplary; it's a very simple antipasto that most places get wrong. As for secondi, you can again look south and to the sea for a mixed seafood pasta or a grilled sea bass with oven-roasted potatoes, or go for the meat with a fillet al pepe verde (fillet cooked with green peppercorns in a brandy cream sauce). There are pizzas as well, so there's something for everyone. Service is always with a smile, with boisterous owner Francesco, his American wife, and their trusted waiter Peppe making you feel at home. The dopo cena (after dinner) digestives flow freely.

Best restaurant in Trastevere!

We were going to another restaurant and it was booked. We found this restaurant 2 blocks away and it was the best food on the trip. A must is the buffala monzarella brushetta and the Pasta Bolognese.

A Gem in Trastevere

My wife and I had a wonderful dinner in this trattoria while visiting Rome. Tucked into a side street this restaurant is everything a traveler from a city know for it's restaurants, is looking for.
I started with an antipasto of tiny clams and muscles. Very fresh and sweet, I couldn't leave any of the white wine and garlic sauce (used the bread to sop up every drop). My wife had tomato and mozzarella with basil that was wonderful.
The pasta that followed was terrific. We shared fresh ravioli with meat filling and penne with a fresh tomato sauce.
The secondi was veal...picante for my wife and saltimbuca for me. Beautifully prepared, flavorful, wonderful sauce.
I know we had dessert, but I didn't eat much of it, opting to savor the last glass of wine and enjoy the surroundings.
Service was attentive, friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. We never felt rushed.
All in all, I have to say if you want an excellent dining experience, in a true Roman trattoria, Alle Fratte is the place to go.

We had a fairly decent dinner, of which the octopus carpaccio was the best dish. Good value overall.

Great atmosphere. Exceptional service and Franceso makes sure that you get what you want....and plenty of it. One of our best dining experiences in Italy for a modest price.
