This is really two establishments under the same management, standing side by side on the main road leading into Alberobello from the SS172. The more upmarket Poeta Contadino specializes in regional cooking with a creative twist, while the Osteria del Poeta offers traditional dishes at budget prices. The refined, understated dining room of the Poeta Contadino ("Peasant Poet") features candles casting shadows on the ancient stone walls. Dishes might include triglie con vinaigrette alla menta (red mullet with a mint vinaigrette) or filetto di maiale in crosta di erbe con salsa agrodolce (herb-crusted pork fillet with a sweet-and-sour sauce). In season, try anything with white truffles.
