Vintage 1997
Vintage 1997 Review
The first floor of an elegant town house in the center of Turin makes a fitting location for this sophisticated restaurant. You might try such specialties as vitello tonnato alla vecchia maniera (roast veal with a light tuna sauce made without mayonnaise) or merluzzo in crosta di erbette con patate e scalogno caramellato (cod filet in a crust of herbs served with potatoes and caramelized scallions). For the especially hungry gourmet there's the menu del Vintage, a 13-course feast that covers the full range of the restaurant's cuisine. There's an excellent wine list, with regional, national, and international vintages well represented.

We had a very good, but not fantastic, experience at Vintage 1997. It was my husband's birthday dinner, so it was a special occasion, and the restaurant ambience and service lived up to that.
My flan was slightly burnt on top, and my husband's risotto a bit undercooked. But my pasta course of three local specialties was quite good, especially the tajarin. Our main courses, merlozza (cod) and rabbit loin were both very good, Italian but with a French feel.
My dessert was different and fun - polenta e latte, a comfort-food dish of polenta with warm milk and vanilla gelato.
This is definitely a special-occasion sort of restaurant. -

Low quality food for Piedmont. I ate two standard dishes, Tajarin or small pasta dish, and a raw meat (Carne Cruda) side dish with a half bottle of nebbiolo and while I did have white truffles on the small pasta dish, his bill for E180 for lunch for one person with two small dishes of low quality was extraordinary to say the least. The restaurant was in a lovely room but the food quality and the stupid prices would keep me from returning. I think he saw an opportunity to roll me and did so very well indeed. Rolled in Torino.
My wife and I were here this trip for just 7 days and ate better Tajarin and Carne Cruda all over Piedmont for less than E40 with white truffels on the Tajarin and ten times better quality too.
Thanks but last Vintage stop for me.
