In an evergreen forest at Perrères, just outside Cervinia, this family-run inn is quiet and cozy, with three big fireplaces and a nice view of the Matterhorn. An excellent restaurant (-$$) serves French dishes and local specialties such as zuppa Valpellinentze (a hearty soup of bread, cabbage, and fontina cheese) and an opulent antipasto (local salami, country pâté, tomino cheese, and much more). Pros: Secluded and beautiful setting, excellent restaurant, well-designed spa facilities. Cons: 5 km (3 mi) outside Breuil-Cervinia (a car is essential), entrance and lobby areas are showing some wear.
