As throughout the rest of Italy, high season in this region is usually at Christmas, Easter, and in summer, when temperatures, prices, and visitor numbers reach a crescendo. Avoid visiting Pompeii during religious festivities -- in particular, Easter Week, May 8th, and the first Sunday in October -- as hotels are likely to be booked up with pilgrims months in advance. As a general rule, to ensure you get the right room at the right time, book well ahead of your expected arrival.
