The most supremely stylish hotel in southern Italy, this luxurious Xanadu has almost made every other accommodation on Capri seem dowdy and dull since it opened in 2007. Set in an 1876 villa perched over the island's Marina Grande harbor (yet removed from its hurly-burly), the hotel welcomes you into salons so glamorous they graced the cover of Europe's Architectural Digest. Nautical blue walls and white Corinthian columns set off a symphony of vintage photographs, 19th-century bronzes, starched white-linen wing armchairs, and enough coffee-table books to keep even the pickiest fashionista happy. Outside, regal stone sphinxes patrol teak-lined bay-side terraces; across a vast lawn, flowering fruit trees shade the gargantuan pool. The guest rooms have a Hamptons-meets-Mediterranean Modern vibe, thanks to billowing white drapes, four-poster beds, 1940s French commodes, and big plasma TVs. More like a superrich aunt's villa on Capri than a regular hotel, this is the place that all high lifers (sorry, rooms start at €700) must check out.
