Punta Tragara Review

The most beautiful hotel on Capri, this has a hold-your-breath perch directly over the famed rocks of I Faraglioni. Clinging to the Punta Tragara lookout point and originally a villa designed by Le Corbusier, it once hosted a secret wartime meeting between Churchill and Eisenhower. Opened as a hotel in the 1970s by Count Manfredi, baronial fireplaces, gilded antiques, and travertine marble set the style in the main salons, while guest rooms—no two are alike—are sumptuously cozy-casual. The dreamy garden area is the showstopper here and it comes studded with two pools. One is a heated, jet-powered, aquamarine jewel set a foot away from Monzù, an idyllic, arbor-covered restaurant that just might be the prettiest spot on the island. To top it off, the entire staff seems to have been sent to the finest finishing schools.

I am here on the last day of my honeymoon and very sad to go. This place is absolutely everything I imagined as the once-in-a-lifetime splurge. Everything is as advertised in the Fodor's book / website. The grounds are magnificent, the food and service impeccable, and the rooms and views are just too great.

NB: The pools are no longer saltwater, and the restaurant is named Monzu.
