When to Go
Campania is not at its best in summer, when Naples swelters and Vesuvius is obscured by haze. Optimum times are May-June and September-October. Visiting in winter can be an appealing choice -- the temperature remains comfortable and rain is relatively rare. Be aware, though, that while a few hotels and restaurants in Sorrento and along the Amalfi Coast are open year-round, the islands of the bay shut down from November to March.
